How to Face Fear About the Future With Coaching
I recently came across a thought-provoking quote from Faith Popcorn, the renowned trend forecaster, in a New York Times article.
She said: “We’re helping [clients] reposition their companies. No matter what decade you’re in, the future is painful because the future means change. It means rethinking things.”
This quote struck a chord with me as an ICF professional coach. The future can be daunting, not just for corporations but for individuals as well. As one of my coaching clients shared recently, the future feels intimidating because it’s tangible—different from imagined or hoped-for outcomes.
In our roles as ICF professional coaches, we work with our clients as they confront the reality of change. We facilitate them through their process, supporting their journey and their goals of change.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of coaching is witnessing a client’s breakthrough moment, when they gain insight into how to turn future challenges into actionable steps.
Coaching isn’t just about guiding clients through their present; it’s about empowering them to shape their future with confidence and resilience. Together, we explore new possibilities and develop strategies that transform fear into action and uncertainty into opportunity.
How do you face the future in your own life? What steps can you take to make the unknown more navigable and less daunting?
