Unlocking Potential in 2025: How a Simple Question Can Spark New Possibilities in Coaching
Recently, during a coaching session, I had the opportunity to guide a client through the brainstorming phase of evaluating their summer freelance work options. It’s always exciting to witness moments of insight and inspiration, and this session was no exception.
As we explored different possibilities, I posed a question designed to tap into the client’s unused potential:
“Which of your talents and gifts are you not currently using and might apply here?”
The response was immediate and enthusiastic: “Omg. I love that question! It makes me feel good to think about those options.”
This reaction was a testament to the power of aligning coaching questions with a client’s strengths and passions. The client shared a quick story about how they had seen someone approaching a task in a new and innovative way. This observation sparked an idea that hadn’t been on their radar before. As a result, this fresh option was added to their brainstorming list, opening up a new pathway for their freelance work.
This experience underscores a key aspect of ICF Professional Coaching: creating space for clients to discover and leverage their inherent talents in new ways. It’s about fostering an environment where exploration and creativity can thrive, leading to actionable insights and new opportunities.
In coaching, the right question can be a catalyst for breakthrough moments. By encouraging clients to consider their untapped strengths, we help them see possibilities they might have otherwise missed. It’s these moments that drive growth and success, both personally and professionally.
If you’re looking to unlock new opportunities in your own career or personal life, consider exploring your talents in ways you haven’t before. Sometimes, a simple question can lead to profound discoveries and new directions.
